"When 2019 started, I prayed that God would show me perspective for the year. I knew going into that year I would be attending this trip. Before I left, I would say I had been in a changing season, full of things I wasn’t ready for, and honestly I was terrified. As soon as we landed in Belize, I had the mentality of 'I feel bad for them for how little they have.' - but I didn’t know them. What I saw was only on the outside. As the trip went on, we met people and shared in a piece of their culture and life. I began to realize these people actually knew joy. They were scared of things- but they knew what it is like to be grateful and joyful over the big and small. They didn't always know how their needs were going to be met - but they had faith. I went into this mission trip thinking I was there to serve these people, and it is only about them for a week - but really, I also saw a change in myself. My mindset changed from 'I’m terrified of what I’m going through because I don’t see what’s gonna happen or how it’s gonna happen' to 'I wake up braver in the morning knowing that God is gonna give me my daily bread and show me who He is everyday.' I gained wisdom by watching and sharing life with them. Seeing how people put their trust in God and find joy from knowing him is what left the biggest impact on me."
